Sphinx Cat Breed

In 1966, in Canada, a domestic cat gave birth to a den of kittens without any hair. This natural mutation gave origin to the Sphinx breed. Analogous mutations had happened before in other places, like Mexico. Mexico gave birth in the late nineteenth century to the Mexican cat that had no hair and was only accepted by Mexicans.

Cat lovers from all over the world had been breeding Sphinx cats with cats that had a rather normal hair, and during decades the purpose was to create a breed of cats that would carry a great genetic reserve and hybrid power.

Sphinx cats exhibit a slightly triangular head, petite nose, big spread ears, golden eyes and some hair on its face and ears. These cats are strong, medium sized, and have sturdy bones and body structure. Adult females can weigh up to 3 or 4 kilograms while adult males can weigh between 4 or 5 kilograms and have a short scorched-like type of hair. Colors may vary, but all are considered as part of this cat family.
