 | Skogkatt CatOrigin There are several theories about the origin of this breed. It is said that some specimens originate from the European domestic cat abandoned by the Vikings in this region. It is also possible that they come from the crossing of the Viking cats and wildcats; and finally there's another version that they come from the crossing of Angora cats, proceeding from Iran, they arrived to Italy in 1521 and later were transferred to Norwegian were they were crossed with the European domestic breed. Some indicate that Skogkatt cats live only in the border of Norwegian and Sweden with the exception of some specimens in Scotland. The name comes from the population of Finnskogene border with Sweden, place where exist the mayor population of these cats. Characteristics The Skogkatt is a breed that presents peculiar characteristics in their physical aspect. One of these particularities is the Greek nose, of Greek freightage. Another physical complexity is the disposition of their hair. Double coating; one of them is long and soft and usually hangs from the back towards the flanks and presents a small collar. Another coating is internal and short and it is made of pure wool.Long body same as the legs. Hind legs longer than front legs. Long and bushy tail. Their big claws help them survive. The head is a equilateral triangle, without a break and wide forehead. They have large eyes and can present an infinite variety of colors without mattering the color of the coating. Big ears with presence of similar hair to the Lynx cat. Summer hair is short and does not have the collar, only has abundant long hair on the tail. When they have dry and careless hair, they are called poor cats. The kittens have a layer of hair called coat from three to five months; which they start losing as they come to an adult age. |
