Selecting a Cat
People choose cats in different ways, although sometimes the cats are who choose the people.
There are many street cats that find temporary homes with families and decide to stay to live with them indefinitely. The contrary also occurs.
There are cats that get angry when other animals or a baby arrives to the house, or if there is a changing of house, and they leave looking for another home more stable.
This shows how independent or dependent they are at the same time.
Buying a pedigreed cat
When acquiring a cat, what people usually do is to read the newspaper adds and the bulletin boards that hang on shops or the go to a pedigree cat breeder. This last is, of course, of great importance if you have intentions of exhibiting the cat as an animal of pedigree.
The rules that regulate the expedition of pedigree certificates vary from one country to another, or even from one organization to another in the same country, but they all coincide in that it should be able to prove that the animal descends from a registered line of four generations.
Anyway, it is very important to have in mind that a pedigree certificate doesn't constitute itself in a guarantee of quality or of the potential of a cat as an exhibiting animal, nor of his physical and health condition.
When a person wishes to acquire a pedigree cat, they usually have to sign a contract that establishes, among other things, the circumstances in how you plan to cross the cat for breeding, because there are many crossed in determined races that are not permitted. The contract may also make the original owner to have to take the cat away if after a determine period of time he gets ill or can't adapt to its new home.
In lack of a contract, the owner has to at least obtain a certificate of registry of the cat, a document that proves the transference (necessary for the owner to exhibit the cat) and a written confirmation of all the conditions accorded between the original owner and the new order.
Breeders also sell cats without a pedigree certificate when they have flaws that disqualify them or impedes them from entering competitions; they are perfectly healthy cats and can be wonderful animals for company.
The term of animal quality is the one they use in these cases.
Often, this cats are sold already sterilized or under the conditions of being sterilized during a pre-established period of time.
If you want to know which are the most famous breeder in your area, ask any local cat organization, selective breeding club or specialized magazine. Veterinarians also usually recommend good breeders, and they often know about beautiful healthy cats without pedigree in need of a good home.
However, you have to have in mind that not all the breeding centers are registered in the cats associations.
