Sanitary care
The just born kitten is incapable of urinating and of defecating by itself, so its mother must stimulate it by licking the anal zone. Therefore, and before the absence of the mother, it is necessary to stimulate the whelps by hand after each meal. One must use a small humid towel with luke warm water to do so.
It is suggested to observe the urine and the feces in order to detect any possible presence of diseases. If the urine is of an obscure yellow color or orange, it means that food is inadequate. The feces must be brownish and not so solid.
Whelps cleanliness must be minimum, but one must clean their eyes with warm water, trim their nails if sharp and rub their body with baby oil once or twice a week.
The orphan whelps are obviously more susceptible of getting infection diseases, respiratory type above all, therefore, it is very important to try at all times a warm and dry atmosphere, free of air streams.
Socialization: It is suggested to keep whelps united, because this helps their social development and physical and mental stimulation. It is important that the orphan kittens keep contact with members of the house upon the 3 weeks of age; it is also recommended handling them with care, because they are very delicate.
