Cat Retractable Nails

There are few animals that are able to show or hide their nails. Cats show their nails when they want to hunt or climb something. Their nails catch on to things, which enables them to grab at things better. When a cat does not need to use its nails anymore, it hides them because it's difficult for a cat to walk with its nails sticking out. Other animals, like dogs and even some animals within the cat family like leopards do not have this feature.

Carpet scratchers: There are some cats that prefer to sharpen their nails on the floor rather than standing to do this. If you cat or kitten does this, avoid it from ruining your rugs and carpets by placing a scratching mat on the floor. Use the same type of training (as you would with a scratching pole) to teach the cat to use it.
