Outdoor Cat Play Enclosure Design
I was asked to fill out a questionnaire about how I would choose to design an outdoor cat play house enclosure. My cat lives in my back yard and has a cedar wood cat house with a sun deck. It is elevated on legs and gives my cat a vantage point from where it can watch the over back yard. My cat spends most of his days lying there either sleeping or on the lookout for small prey birds, squirrels and the like. Some of the questions that I had to answer on the questionnaire surprised me. When designing a cat house or play area I guess it is important that you consider all the variables. Like, what type of house is best for your breed of cat? Whether you will be insulating the house or connecting it to a climate control system (if you do attach a AC/Heater to your cat house you sho
uld insulate it). Will your cat enclosure be exposed to rain, wind or snow? Are there problems with parasites or other pests in your area? Do you live somewhere humid or is the air/ground usually dry? How many cats will be using the play area? If your cats live outdoors do they use a kitty litter box? What kind of kitty cat litter do you use? Is your cat inquisitive and adventuresome or relaxed and laid back? Is your cat neutered/spayed or "unfixed?" Does your cat like hard chewy toys or soft and spongy toys. What kind of cat furniture do you have at present? Where do you buy your cat products and accessories? If any, what kind of vitamin supplements does your cat take? Now obviously some of these questions really had nothing to do with the design plans or the type of construction material you should use in the construction of a cat play enclosure but anyway I had fun thinking of all the answers and got some good ideas out of the deal.
