Most Common Parasites for Cats

Most Common Parasites

Cats have many classes of parasites. Some of them are insects that live in its skin or close to it and that are fed on the blood of the animal; others are internal parasites that live in the intestine or in other parts of the body. Some of the parasites of the cats can, in certain conditions, infect the man and can be a possible danger for the health of our family. The prevention must be a routine of the caresses of the cat. You can't wait that he is infected to do anything.

In the populations of parasites influence changeable factors, as the temperature, the climate and the density of the population of cats in a certain place. The fleas, for example, need a hot temperature to reproduce (though the central heating does that they are turning a problem during the whole year, even in cold zones). The worms are more an inconvenience in the urban zones than in the country. The veterinarian is who can advise us better about how to protect our cat and to do a preventive program.

External parasites
A very current parasite in the cat are the fleas. The cats become allergic to its stings, so that these parasites cause many problems of skin. The females put 20 and 50 daily eggs, which can fall around the animal, (the bed of the cat, the carpets and the furniture). In warm climate, the eggs incubate between 2 and 12 days. After happening for the phases of larva and chrysalis, appears the adult flea that immediately looks for a guest for living. The complete cycle of life can not be more of 3 weeks, but the chrysalises are capable of remaining in latent condition up to one year in cold time. To be able to attack the fleas with efficiency, it is necessary to treat periodically to all the animals of the house with an antifleas product, which killing or preventing on having the eggs sterile. They are of many classes: shots, in spray, as topic lotions and in capsules, which are mixed with the food of the cat once a month. If our cat turns out to be full of fleas it is necessary to disinfect his bed, the curtains, the carpets, the carpet and the furniture, to destroy all the eggs and larvae in the environment where the cat lives.

The louses are a small insects, of dun pale color, which move slowly above ,up and down in the hair of the cat and on his skin; they are less frequent than the fleas. They spend all its life on the cat, putting the eggs in his hair. The treatments antifleas also are killing them.

The ticks are small insects of the spider's family. They live in the bushes and get hooked up in the hair of the cat when this one passes close to the shrub, sticking to his skin. As they eat, they swell up themselves of blood and seem as a few small peas. After a few days they become detached, but if we see them in our cat, we should remove them immediately. Most of them, only produce a local irritation, but some of them can affect more seriously to their victims, producing paralysis or depletion to them. For example, in the United States, the tick of the deer is carrier of Lyme's disease, a disease of slow course which symptoms are a cutaneous eruption and inflammation of the joints. If you live in a place where there are ticks, it is necessary to check the hair of the cat daily and use a lotion or spray protector or apply a treatment periodically.

The mites scarcely are seen to simple sight and propagate for direct contact between animals. They feed on the skin or internal's coating of the auditory conduit, producing defoliation and irritation. They can treat by lotion, spray, or adding a few drops in the ears.
