Manx of Long Hair

Manx of Long Hair

The first breeders observed that the Manx could give kitties of long hair. This one was the result that was not claimed on having crossed them and that introduced the repetitive gene of long hair. In the 1960 Century, some breeders of United Estates intended to consolidate a Manx breed of long hair. They were called (Welsh) Cymric, in honor of Wales, where there was a variety of cats without tail. The Welshman has all the standard characteristics of the Max, among them his friendly character, the potentially lethal gene - that controls the development of the tail and his peculiar way of walking. Besides, the Welsh variety has a semi long double cap and the ears and cheeks with plumes. In the United Kingdom (on the contrary of the United States), he has not been recognized yet by the associations of cats of exhibition.

Q/A I have a cat, Jill, whom I want to breed. I have heard that it is not easy. Can you advise me?

Yes. Jill is a rumpy (without tail) and if you cross with another rumpy, there are many possibilities that the quarter part of the kitties die in the mother abdomen or on having been born, for the congenital proper deformities of Manx's syndrome. If Jill or the breeding are of another type, there are fewer risks; but if you are a novice, it would be advisable that you were looking for a breeder more experienced who provides the breeding. The kitties with congenital faults rarely survive to their third month of life and they are being slept to avoid sufferings. Have the kitties until they are 4 months to insure yourself that they are healthy, before giving or selling them.

We have been looking for a kitty Manx and recently are offered one. But when we went to see him, we were very surprised on having seen that he had a short petite tail. Does it mean that he is not of breed?

Not necessarily, because the Manx cross sometimes with other breeds to minimize the possibility of problems in the spine. Your cat can be a "longie" in which the genetic mutation of the backbone produces a petite tail as residual. The kitty about you speak must have the affectionate and calm character of the Manx and, except that there are pawned in having a cat without tail, there is no motive to refuse him.
