The Mainecoon is the North American long haired cat and gets its name as a result of the recognition of the State of Maine in the U.S. were it was appreciated for its talents as a rodent hunter.

This breed is known for being good natured, their great intelligence, good disposition and beauty. This cat won the first United States cat contest. Mainecoon cat has a big, rounded head with broad based ears, square snout and big eyes (only white cats have blue eyes). It has a well-built body, with strong legs and a thick medium length tail. Male adult cats weigh between 8 and 9 kilograms and females between 4 and 5 kilograms.

This cat has short hair on the head and very long and dense hair on the rest of the body. There are at least 25 known colors of cats which are divided into four categories: single colored, speckled, speckled with white and others.
