Letting Other People Pet your Cat

Another thing you will want to teach your kitten is to be pet. Sometimes kittens are afraid when people touch them, so it's important to help it learn that being held and pet is a good thing for them. There are a couple advantages to teaching this to your kitten; one advantage is that your family and friends will enjoy being around it and bond with it. Also a cat that is used to being handled is a better patient with the veterinarian, and this of course is very convenient if the kitten or cat ever needs medial treatment. The best way to train your cat is to hold it every day; just make sure that the cat is comfortable and that it enjoys the experience.

Safety precautions: Kittens being the way they are, are naturally very curious and this has more than once proven to be disastrous and on occasions even dangerous. When bringing a new kitten into your home, make sure to check your house and garden first to see if there are places that could be dangerous. Sometimes there are places in the house or garage that a kitten could get stuck in. If you have a pool, you might want to consider covering it with a net. Cats are able to swim, but kittens might not be able to get out on their own if it is deep and exhaustion can cause them to drown. Another very important thing to check is that your cat does not have access to any type of medications, chemical products, or cleaning products. Cats sometimes like and feel attracted to the smell of these, and they could get very sick or die if they eat or drink them.
