How to Hold and Carry a New Cat
Any cat lover will definitely agree that one of the pleasures of owning a cat is being able to sit on the couch with it curled up on your legs purring while you pet it. But in order to get to this, it's important that you learn how to handle it. A cat will only enjoy these loving gestures if it is treated gently and with respect.
How to carry a cat: The first thing you must make sure of is that your cat feels safe as you are lifting it from the ground and when you are holding it. If you are not sure about how to do this, or if the cat is very energetic and rowdy and this makes you afraid of dropping it, here is a list of steps on how to avoid this:
- Place one hand under the cat's chest. Make sure that your fingers are extended in between it fore legs.
- Lift it from the ground and use your other hand to hold it's behind.
- Place the cat near your chest to make it feel safe and secure.
- If the cat becomes nervous and moves a lot, place it back onto the floor right away. A nervous cat will try to jump and could scratch you in the process.
