How to Build a Large Cat House

While doing some research about how to build a large cat house I came upon some good advice that I think should be foremost in peoples minds when planning or designing any cat house. Without question one of the best loved of all cat houses (both by cat and their owners) is the elevated wood cathouse. When elevating a cat house there are two different ways that you can go about achieving a good height. One is by using a four leg base the other is by using a single leg base. The single leg base usually resembles a trunk of a tree but it could also be a pole or post. The four leg base resembles a normal four legged table or bed. Depending on the height you are trying to attain the four legged version is almost always preferred as it is unquestionably more stable.

However it is possible to make the single base version suitably stable but it requires better knowledge and planning. I think that the single leg base is a little more rustic or "catty" but the four legged base is definitely safer and if you have more than one cat it is the way to go almost without exception. Now if your are using wood in your cat house or enclosure it is normally quite a simple matter to put legs on your cathouse. I would not recommend that you do it yourself unless your are an experienced carpenter but rather have someone else do it for you or simply purchase the legs when you buy your cat house in the first place you can always store them if you decide not to use them. If you plan to put your large cat house outside then it is important to make sure any wood that is in contact with the ground be treated against humidity or else your wood will begin to rot.
