Homemade Cat Food Recipes

In order to give a more varied diet than only canned food, one can prepare the feed at home. One must, in this case, be careful in balancing nutritional substances, because a diet based on meat may cause deficiencies. Liver, for example, can poison them with vitamin A. With the help of a nourishing chart one can get an adequate composition of meals. It is best to feed cats with a varied diet, some times it could be meat, other times viscera, then canned animal feed but all of them enriched, for example, with cheese, egg whites, green vegetables, oat flakes and vitamin and mineral compounds.

The adequate beverage: Cats are not great drinkers. Cats, generally, get most of the required liquids to cover its needs from food. Water is the most adequate beverage. Some drink from puddles and others from jars, but this habit does not mean they have quit using a bowl with fresh water. Every cat has its own habit. Mine like to take the ration from the tub or from the faucet.

Milk is also food, not a beverage! It contains many nutritive substances, such as albumen or calcium, and it is specially recommendable for babies and kittens. However, cow milk has a different composition than those of the mother's milk., it is a fact that many cats cannot tolerate it and therefore are exposed to diahrrea. If this happens do not give them any type of milk, and even if watered it is useless. As a general rule, milk is worthless as a beverage.

Twelve golden rules

1. Cats should always eat their meals at the same time of day. Cats will adapt to the schedule.
2. Do not fill its bowl to the top, because cats will not eat it all and leftovers will stay there for too long.
3. Give a fresh portion every time. Leftovers are not supposed to be mixed with fresh food. Instead one should fill the bowl with less amounts.
4. Do not serve directly from the freezer.
5. Fresh, good and varied food should be given so as to not spoil the animal.
6. Do not feed them after or before its regular meals, and beware because cats can be very persistent.
7. Do not take away all the food from an obese cat, it is preferable to give them half a ration.
8. Our leftovers will not harm them, but one must not give it to them on a regular basis, nor can it become a habit. Food must not be too salty, nor too sweet nor be too spicy.
9. Clean the feeding bowls with hot water after each meal.
10. Cats that are free to go outside not only have to drink enough water, but also eat. They not always find enough rodents to feed on.
11. Dog food is not adequate for cats, it does not have enough albumen.
12. To want to feed cats with a vegetarian diet is almost a lab experiment. These are animals that are used to animal albumen and will suffer serious deficiencies if not fed with this.
