Himalayan Cat

Himalayan Cat

Origin
During the 30th year in the United States, the doctors Clyde Keeler and Virginia Cobb crossed a black Persian with a Siamese in an attempt to create a cat that had hair and body of a Persian, but conserved the colors of the Siamese. The first kitten now known as Himalayan was born in 1935 and this breed was recognized in 1955.

They were named this way because they look like the Himalayan rabbits. In the United States they are known as point Longhair (long-haired with color spots).

Characteristics

Their hair is long, dense, thin and shinny. Has a protuberant neckline that continues on a ruff. Robust and medium sized, with short, thick and strong limbs. The rear ones straight with tufting between the toes. The tail is carried low.

The head is round and massive placed on a short and powerful neck. The nose is small and wide. Big round eyes with small ears with round ends and slightly inclined forward and presence of long feather like hair in the zone.

When the kittens are born, they don't present spots, but a solid cream color and pink nose; the spots start appearing when they open their eyes.

The color of pure breeds are: seal point, chocolate point, blue point, lilac point, flame point, tortoise point, blue-cream point.

They are accustomed to lying down and putting their legs upwards and strongly purring to call the attention of their owner. They are good companion and very affectionate, intelligent and cozy.

They don't require much space, which makes them ideal for persons who live in a apartment. They are also great companion for children.

Keep in mind that the female cats like their owner to take part when they are giving birth.

Among the cares that this breed needs are brushing their hair which has to be done every two days to take away dead hair and avoid knots and at least once a month give them a bathe.
