Heated Outdoor Cat House
When we bought a new outdoor duplex cat house we decided to get a heated one. Our old cathouse had been insulated but since we were planning on having some kittens we decided that besides getting a cedar duplex cat house it would also be a good and wise investment to have it heated. The company we bought the wood cathouse from did a great job of not only insulating the duplex but also getting it ready for us to attach the AC/Heater to it. The only thing which we hadn't thought about and that we had to take care of right away was a covering for the heating unit. Having the AC/Heater outside exposed to the elements is never a good idea so we just had a friend build us a little wooden shelter for the heater. One thing we had been worried about with the heater was our cats being adversely affected by the heat. Our cats being too cold was our worry before but then after we had the heater set up we were concerned about the temperature being to
o hot. Pretty much our biggest concern is that once our kittens come along they will be much more venerable to not only the heat but also the dryness that can occur when you have a heater running. I understand that it is nowhere near the same thing but I had been a fish enthusiast for many years until a couple of very traumatic events involving aquariums overheating and all of my fish being cooked alive. Since then I have just been really wary of heaters and heating for pets. I am probably overreacting and as long as we are on top of the situation I am sure everything will be fine and the AC/Heater will turn out to be a really good thing for our cats.
