Frequency for cleanliness

Although there are different opinions, there are some that point out that domestic short haired cats, should only be bathed when they are dirty; the ideal thing is to follow some of these advices

Short haired cats
Usually these kind of cats don't give too much trouble since they don't need continuous bathing. They are ideal for those that don't have too much time. You should:

• Give them a bath once a month.
• Brushing often is not necessary. However, it is recommendable to do it once a week.

Semi-long haired cats
These kind don't give too much trouble as long haired cats, but they do need a continued clean up. 

• Bathing them is important because they cannot be clean just by licking themselves. The best is to bathe them once every two weeks.
• They need to be brushed once or twice a week to avoid them from swallowing hair balls.

Long-haired cats
These cats are very nice at first site, but they need great care.

• This cat cannot clean themselves because they have too much hair. Bathe them once every two weeks. Do not bathe them almost everyday, they could get sick. 
• Brushing their hair has to be done three or four times a week. They should get to use to this since little.
• Cut their hair on the rear part to avoid getting dirty when they do their needs.
• They also need specific eye cleaning; usually they get hair in their eyes and shed tears.

Kittens
The ideal age to start bathing is when they have received their first two vaccines. After, wait for 10 to 15 days to bathe them, since the vaccines leave them weak. It is not recommendable bathing them frequently because they can get sick. Combing their hair depends whether they have it long, short etc.

Pregnant cats
During the last days, it is not recommendable to bathe them to avoid any miscarriage.
