Female or Male Cat?

All cats except the ones for breeding, must be sterilized, so there is no great differences between males and females when of behavior, health or longevity is referred.

Males are usually bigger, and it's false that after being operated they turn lazy.

With pedigree or without pedigree?
The pedigree is not something relevant if the cat is going to live at home as a pet.

There are so many beautiful and attractive cats without pedigree, and there are no outstanding differences in health, sociability or adaptability to domestic life.

The only consideration at the time of choosing an animal with pedigree might be the grade of vocalization and of activity that some breeds show, or the need of peace or company that others show.

Kitten or adult?
Here you might have to think a bit more. Adult cats present more difficulties at the time of adapting to new places, which means that in a long term they won't make it. At first, the best is to leave them always inside the house for them to get used to their new home and environment, or they will try to return to their old home.

On the other hand, it results very gratifying for children to see the kittens as they grow, that are always easiest to educate and they adapt themselves better and quicker to the life in a new home.

Long or short hair?
This is a matter in which you do have to stop and think in a practical form of view. Long hair cats change hair more often than short hairs; their hairs are more delicate and are inclined to get dirty and to have parasites.

These are things that we have to have in mind when having at home members with asthma, allergies or eczemas.

In case that the health risks are serious, the best is to avoid having cats and home and to consult an specialist.
