Feline Psychology
The relation of a domestic cat with its owner and his family and with the rest of the animals in the house is incredibly complex. In it are mixed the wild impulses and others that impel him to live in company due to the will of adapting himself to the domestic life.
It is a real act of living with opposing feelings, in which the cat combines its wish for freedom, its anxiety for hunting, to choose its own territory and to relate with others freely, with the undeniable advantages of a shelter and a secure source for feeding daily.
There is much reasoning that feed this internal conflict and that why it's surprising for it to surface on so little occasions and in so isolated cases.
Vital Space
Female cats are good mothers and they give their kittens an environment full of warmth and caring. The taste for comfort is implanted at early ages and they last during all their lives; this tendency is reflected in the way they look for isolated corners, warm rugs besides the chimney, soft cushions or beds.
Cats need to have a vital space for their own of about 50 cms. In which he can control everything and feel isolated from the rest. To it they go every time they feel nervous, reason for why it should be far from the house noises, a calm place in which to sleep, rest and for observing everything without any interruptions.
If there is more than one cat at home, the vital space must be ample enough for all of them to be comfortable.
For a cat to choose without problems its favorites places at home, all the members of the house must agree with which places are permitted and which are not.
For a cat is unpleasant and confusing, as with children, for having a member of the house letting him do something and then another coming to reprehend him for doing it.
If a bed is a permitted territory, the cat will not understand why other beds aren't, overall when these others are in warmer rooms or where the sun rays touch.
There are some people, for example, that love to have their cats sleeping on their beds besides their feet, while others not so much.
Probably, the best solution, more for hygienic reasons than for any other, is not to permit cats inside the bedrooms.
