Examining your catJust as with any pet, it's important you check your cat daily to discard any chance of sickness. If you notice that your cat is acting differently in any way, you should get veterinarian advice on it. Checking your cat daily will prevent an illness from getting worse and it is also an opportunity to bond with you cat or kitten. Kittens especially need to be kept an eye on because they can become easily sick if they are not getting the appropriate food and care. How to examine a cats from head to toe - Place one of your hands underneath the cat or kitten so that it remains standing. Look at your cat's eyes and check that they are clean and bright. If you are able to see the cat's third eyelid, you must take it to get a check up.
- Check the cat's ears by gently lifting them and looking inside them. Make sure to talk to your cat while you are doing this so that it does not get nervous.
- Check the cat's teeth by lifting its lips one at a time, then gently open the cat's mouth and look at its tongue and throat. Its mouth and tongue should be pink.
- Check its neck and shoulders by touching its coat and skin. Do this by gently sliding your hand on its neck down to its outer legs. Then, check the cat's paws and nails. Look under it's paws as well to check that the cat has not scratched itself or gotten something stuck in them.
- Start again at the cat's shoulders and slide your hands down to its hips, this will allow you to check the cats weight. If you cannot feel the cats bones, it might be overweight, however, if you think that it's hipbones are too pronounced, the cat might be underweight.
- You can now examine the cats behind legs, start from the outside and then check its inner legs and thighs. Check its paws and nails as well.
- Treat your cat for behaving by giving it a treat or petting it.
If your cat seems uptight about getting it's daily "check up", try to encourage it by giving it some treats or a toy that it likes. As soon as the "check up" is over, take some time to play with it. |
