Bored Cat - Dying of boredom

Some cats misbehave simply because they are bored out of reason after being left alone for long hours of the day with nothing to keep them occupied. This happens more often with cats who aren't allowed to venture outdoors and except for being naughty have no other pass time to keep them busy. If your cat is misbehaving, biting or scratching furniture, digging up the pot plants or what have you ask your self these questions. Is my cat trying to get my attention? Is it bored and without an outlet for its energies? Is my cat hungry or in need of attention and affection? If you put yourself in your cats place and try to see things from its perspective this will help you to better understand the problem and what can be done to find a solution.

Smothering: There are times when we are petting our cat or showing it affection and all of a sudden it becomes aggressive and threatening. Why do cats that are normally calm and easy going display this uncharacteristic behavior? Normally it is due to the fact that for some reason the cat feels smothered. The best thing to do if your cat is reacting in this way is to pet the cat when it is sitting or lying beside you and not on your lap and if your cat starts to appear uncomfortable with your affections then simply give it some space. As long as your cat feels comfortable and like it can move on when it wants to then you shouldn't have to many problems along these lines.
