 | Dangerous Cat injuriesThere are all those techniques to prevent the cat from moving by itself and the evidently serious ones, as the fractures or paralysis. Be extremely careful when lifting up an animal that may have suffered important physical injuries:- Keep the back down well.
- If he has some broken extremity, do not let him lay down on it.
- If he has suffered damages in the thorax, lay down of flank so that the less affected lung is upwards. (If he has injuries in the chest as well as in the legs, that one has priority).
- Let the cat adopt the position that turns out to be more comfortable to breathe.
- Place the hurt cat with the back toward you.
- Next, slip him with care until locating on a small board for moving him. (A great waved cardboard piece could serve)
- If you do not count with the aid of another person, always introduce the cat in a box to transport him. Cover it to prevent him from moving and for keeping warmness.
- If you do not have a board adapted, put him on a blanket or big towel. Wrap him up with it and use it as support.
How to use a blanket as stretcher: Holding the front part as much as the back of the body of the cat, lift him up taking care of putting him on a folded blanket. In order to transport him, hold the blanket well and support the animal the closest to your body as you can. - If you have a box, put the feline in wrap him up in the blanket. If not, take him directly to the car.
- Keep the animal down well during the transfer. If you do not have a box and there is nobody that can sit next to him, wrap him up well in the blanket to maintain him well warm and to reduce the shock risk. (If the weather is cold, light up the car heater)
- If injuries are serious do not lose time looking for objects to transport him. Go as rapidly as possible to the veterinary clinic, but avoiding shaking it and abrupt handling that can cause more damages to the animal.
- When you raise and transfer a hurt cat, avoid its body from turning or twisting.
- if you must wrap up the feline to move him, be careful not to tighten the chest so as to let him breathe without any difficulty.
