Creatures of Habit

Cats are by nature conservative. They like thing always the same and to repeat themselves every day at the same hour. They hate surprises. They quickly learn the daily routines of any new house: when and where in what shelf receives the sun rays, at what time do the children come home from school, what signals indicate when the family is going to sleep, etc.

Cat's sense of time is amazing and it is based, in a great measure, on the quality of the light, reason why the turns for the territory as mentioned before, work so well. For example, a cat used to caresses and the petting of children that go by in front of his yard when going to school every day, will try to be in the same spot every day and at the correct hour not to miss them (during the children vacation, he surely will wonder where they are for several days). Once the keys to the daily routine of a house established, cats pass most of their time sleeping. The quantity of hours for sleeping vary, but its usually of about from 16 to 18 hours.

Wild felines are night hunters that sleep during the day, and it seems that domestic cats have intentionally altered this pattern of behavior. Although those that stay out of the house all night returns to it immediately.

Kittens and old cats are the ones that sleep most, but, in general, it depends on the habits of life from the people in the house.

For example, if there is no one during the day because everybody is studying or working, the cat will sleep almost all the time; however, if he finds an especially comfortable corner, he won't doubt in sleeping almost at any hour, overall after feeding and cleaning himself.
