Corporal language

Body expressions that cats emit are varied and frequent. Know how to deal with them when they are calm or defensive:

  • When a cat is calm and at ease, it purrs and moves the tail slowly, their coat is smooth and even closes the eyes when being caressed.
  • When a cat is defensive due to the presence of another animal or because something scares it, it will be standing with the body arched, bristly tail and up, dilative pupils, flatten ears with direction backwards and with the mouth open emitting sounds as if it was spitting or growling. The coat will be bristly and backwards.
  • When a cat is submissive before another animal or person, the whole body will be shrunken, the tail gathered towards the body, fallen ears, expanded pupils and semi opened mouth emitting moans or low meows. It can be scared and the tail will not stop striking the floor.
  • When they have an aggressive attitude or is preparing to attack, it adopts a balanced position, stiff ears facing backwards, opened mouth emitting hisses, growls, contracted pupils with the tail low and balancing it.
