Contagious Cat disease to Humans

There are several pathogenic agents that are likely to attack both, men and cats. but this topic should not bother in excess. A vaccinated domestic cat that only eats cooked food or mixed feed, rarely catches dangerous germs. The same goes for alley cats, even if they live in the open. As long as one complies with every hygienic and preventive measures there is nothing to worry about catching a disease through one's pet.

Rabies: Every cat having access to the streets has to be vaccinated.

Toxoplasmosis: It is specially dangerous for women during pregnancy, due to the serious disturbances that it could cause to the fetus brain and eyes. The future mother should be prevented from petting the cat throughout all this period.

Microspores: It is caused by a skin fungi and it manifests itself by the loss of hair, and itching. To prevent future problems, disinfect or throw away the basket or box in which the cat sleeps, also throw away combs, brushes and toys.

Acaridae: The best defense is a regular worming of the cat.

Fleas, acarus, and ticks: For them a special collar against insects would be useful. Treat with talcum power and bathing lotion (ask for them at drugstores or at the vet) . If the cat has ticks, clean and vacuum rugs and other floor covers thoroughly. In case of acarus, disinfect every single place the cat tends to be at.
