Cat sleep
Cats spend three fourths of their lives sleeping, a total of 16 to 18 hours daily. They choose comfortable and calm places of the house to rest; during winter, the warmer they can find (top of beds, sofas, devices that emanate heat, etc), and during summer, where the breeze isn't too strong but keeps them cool.
Almost always they have short periods of sleep during the day since their major activity starts late afternoon and during the night.
The new cat owner become worried with this behavior and get scared of their night rhythm, but there are solutions to achieve that they don't disturb your sleep. It is necessary to make them play during the last hours of the day and make them get tired. The food can also be placed before going to sleep so they can rest after and of course they have to be educated so they don't meow or bother during the night. Like any other process, it's not going to be fast but it will be effective.
It can be possible that old cats suffer from some alterations during their dreams and will look for their owner or meow during the night when before they wouldn't do it.
This kind of alteration in their behavior can be a symptom for something else than just playing, if they insist on getting our attention, it is recommendable to take them to the veterinarian to do an exploration.
