Cats in the Human World

Cats are grateful and affable animals, although they are in many senses, lonesome creatures that seem to enjoy their condition, but the truth is that they need to have company. During their first months of life, they establish strong bonds of dependency and this continues until their adult age.

Living with humans
Cat's friendship towards humans is due, above all, to two qualities. First, they are big opportunists that are always looking for comfort in human settlements. You only have to observe a feline, well fed or not, to acknowledge how they are always marauding alert for anything that could be considered an advantage to them. Being an escaping mice, a bird on its nest or any element in the garden that he could take advantage of. Second, cats are adaptable creatures, capable of molding themselves to any kind of habitat being these comfortable human homes or the extreme wildlife.

Cats adapted themselves to living in ships with the same capacity as to any other environment, but because of health situations they where banned from aboard, and left behind in the new colonies. Let's don't forget them cats carried on the Mayflower and those from future coming voyagers. Cats were even left on continents that until then hadn't ever seen one before, like those from the first colonies established in Australia. Unfortunately, the ability to adapt will one day be an interesting subject for labs. In these days, though, many people are against the use of animals in experiments.

Inside or Outside
Although cats feel happier when able to go in or out freely, house cats have a plentiful life if they have enough company and affection. They follow a balanced diet and have the opportunity of putting in practice their hunting and climbing skills. The inconvenience of always having cats inside the house is that if they escape they risk not being able to confront the existing dangers in the outside world, above all traffic, and that they have to fight other cats for invading territories.
