Cat Ticks

Blood sucking parasites. Can affect humans. Once they jump to the animal from the floor, they stroll around until they located themselves in the head. They introduce a sucking device (painless) and stay hooked.

Treatment: if we find any, the way to extract them is: stupefy them slightly with a damp cotton in alcohol or oil during a few seconds. Then, with tweezers, extract from the nearest part of the cats skin, so it comes out completely. It has to be killed by burning it or putting it in a jar of alcohol because if we let it live or just step on it, it will spread its eggs.

The important thing is not how to remove the tick, but not let it bite. Prevention is done the similar to fleas:

Collars or spray: anti parasites both of flea and ticks. Ventilate the house, pass bleach on floors that allows it and have insecticides around.

Mange
A skin disease caused by parasites called mites. They proliferate causing disease in cats with low defenses, young and sickly animals. Once installed the disease, this becomes a powerful source of parasites highly contagious. 

Symptoms: reddening of the skin, appearance of scabs and intense itching. The exact diagnose can be done by scraping of the damaged skin or detection of the parasite by microscope.

Treatment: baths or nebulization with specific products. Sometimes helped with certain injected medicines, they must not constitute a serious problem, though it becomes long and includes a complete disinfection to everything around.

Fungus (micosis)
Vegetal organism that have developed the capacity to parasite other animals to eat. We are always in permanent contact, without getting ill, not unless we are low in defenses. So, a young cat, recently weaned and weak, is the animal that most suffers from micosis.

It can be found in two ways:

• Local: circular spots with hair loss, with
• Diffuse: global disease of skin and hair.

Treatment: it is eliminated with special shampoos and creams or topical ointments. It case of recidivism or suspicious animals of being carriers of this disease, pills are used.
