Main diseases in cats
Panleucopenia:
Severe viral disease, very contagious, also known as feline parvo-virus, which is transmitted by having direct contact with sick animals or contaminated material.

Fomites (vehicles, contaminated clothes, cages, feeding dish, etc) are important in the transmission of this disease.

Symptoms: It has an acute course, most adult cats do not show clinical symptoms, but young ones do. Fever, depression, loss of appetite, thirst, vomit, diarrhea, presence of blood in the feces, abdominal pain, dehydration and sometimes ulcers at the border of the tongue are some of the symptoms.

Prevention: Through a triple vaccine on the sixth week and another after 3 months and an annual vaccine one has to impose a quarantine for the just arrived animals, cleaning and disinfecting the equipment and facilities.

Treatment: The treatment is basically the support against the effects of the disease. One must re-hydrate injecting serum under the skin or by intravenous way. The use of antibiotics is useful to prevent associated infections.
