Cat Safety Training

This kind of education is important for cats because it is focused in avoiding any accidents at home and from wandering, with it cats will get used to better and secure life.

To avoid accidents
Cats are very curious and agile animals giving them the facility to reach almost any place in the house. Point in favor? No.

This can turn against their safety for the variety of appliances we normally have at home, like: stoves, heaters, refrigerator, washing machine etc, that can be mortal traps for cats. To educate them, we can apply a negative technique like for example, shoot it with a water trickle or with a sprayer right when its about to get on an appliance. You can also put something that makes noise when they step on it like foil paper or a sticky surface. Another possibility is to prevent physically from doing it ( for example, place on top of the stove, pots) etc.

No to wander away
Beginning puberty (5 or 6 months), cats have the tendency to go for a stroll and explore territory and search for a partner, this normal practice for theses species can be highly dangerous in an urban area, since cats can be exposed to a variety of infectious, parasitic diseases, traumatic accidents, poisonings, etc.

Therefore the best advice for this, is completely avoid cats from going outdoors, no animal should go out by themselves. To avoid this, all cats both male and female should be gelded and if necessary put barriers to the place ( walls, fences, balcony protection, etc).

Outings
It is difficult to train it for this task, but if you want to take your cat for a walk, do it with a collar and leash. That's why it is recommended to put a name tag in their collar for if it gets lost. It is more useful and easy using a carrier, with them you can take it anywhere in a safe and secure way. In these cases, its advisable to keep the door open of the carrier at all times somewhere in the house put its toys inside and their favorite quilt or some piece of clothes from its owner; giving the cat the opportunity to see this as something normal and even use it as a place where to sleep in.

There are some breeds that can even be taken outdoors with a harness, even though this has to be done little by little and trying not to go to places where there will be a lot of dogs or cats because if the cat gets scared, it will be hard to take it out for a walk with a harness again.
