Cat's Taste
The sense of taste is strongly tied to that of the smell, and surely more in felines than in most of the mammal's reason that explains that first reaction that cats have before food and or why do they go on a hunger strike until you offer him a more appetizing food is not easy to explain.
The gustatory papillae are situated on the anterior lateral and posterior zone of the tongue. As a unique case between mammals, felines don't seem attracted by sweet flavors and its tolerance towards sugar on their diet is very low, due that it causes them diarrhea.
This is what makes the legendary attraction of cats towards milk a total mystery. Although most of them drink it, the lactose that it contains makes cats to prefer water instead of milk; that is from a digestive point of view.
The fact that cats don't tolerate sugar very well means that children should learn that it is a bad idea for them to give cats sweets a way of indulging him.
As it happens with people, when cats have a congested nose, they tend to loose their appetite and to want only food with strong smells like liver, sardines or tuna fish. This last is one of their favorite meals, so much that their owners never offer their cats any afraid that they won't want to eat anything else.
