Cat Purring and Cat Meowing

Cats also use sounds as a method of communication, in fact cats have been know to be able to vocalize up to 100 different forms of a meow compared to a dog's ten different vocalizations of a bark. Cats make sounds to communicate with their owners all the time, and at times they will even "screech" if they are not given the attention they want. The loudest cat is the Siamese breed. A mother cat spends a lot of her time communicating with her babies through sounds. A mother cat calls out to its kittens when they get back home, and purrs while she is feeding them. Kittens are also able to call out to their mother when they are scarred or in trouble. There are theories that each cat and kitten has a different "voice" and this allows the mothers to distinguish each member of the colony with no problem.

Cat Purring: Cats as we all know, purr when they are content and comfortable. Even kittens purr a lot especially when they are drinking their milk from their mother. A cat purrs with its mouth closed, and they don't need to stop to breath when doing so. This enables them to be able to purr for a long period of time.

A mysterious sound" It is unknown how cats purr. It's suspected that they vibrate their vocal cords when inhaling and exhaling, or that it's the sound of blood hitting the aorta, but no one has been able to prove this theory, therefore this incredible ability remains a mystery.
