Cat Poisoning
To know if it has ingested some toxic substance, notice if it has diarrhea and vomit with or without blood, hemorrhages, abdominal pain, apathy and lack of appetite. If it has these signs, continue the following steps:
- If you think it has ingested corrosive substances, as acids, do not provoke the vomit. This can cause severe burns in the esophagus and mouth. Give the cat some milk or water to dilute the poison while you take it to the veterinarian.
- If it ingested a toxic but not corrosive substance, provoke the vomit immediately, introducing the finger in the mouth up to the throat, and after, press the stomach to help it vomit.
- If the animal has convulsion, try to protect it so it doesn't harm itself. The cat will take care of itself while it can, but you must be observant to take care of it.
- It is important that you take a sample of the vomit and take it to the veterinarian together with your cat, so the doctor can determine the treatment.
