Cat Mouth and Teeth Problems

In the beautified care of our cat, one of the parts to overlook is the mouth. If we do not look it occasionally, probably we can not be able to see important signs that the cat is discomfort or even he has strong pains caused by dental diseases or by any another problem. If the cat doesn't want you touching or opening his mouth, surely something is wrong. The teeth, Are they intact and white? The gums, Are pale pink and equal color? Does the cat protest if you touch his teeth or face? Are there soars in the palate or the tongue? Does the cat have bad breath? Does the cat rub the mouth with his legs? If there are any of these symptoms, you must to go soon to the veterinarian.

It is necessary to clean the teeth to the cat for the same reason that we brush ourselves. The microbes form plates in the teeth and lodge between these and the gums. On having accumulated, the gums are inflammed, it is called acute gingivitis. If it is sufficiently serious, the cat can get an infection that needs antibiotics.

The chronic gingivitis can cause a latent disease, as a renal disease, the diabetes or a viral ailment. This disease is furthermore painful, with sores generalized in the gums and other parts of the mouth. It is difficult to treat and even to extract all the teeth. The bacterial infections can invade the space that exists between the root of the tooth and his alveolus in the cranium or the low jaw. In this moment there is produced an inflammation of the dental periostio that advances up to destroying the bone of the alveolus and the support fibers of the tooth in his place. The tooth is increasingly free until, sooner or later, it falls. This disease is in the habit of being accompanied of abcceses in the mouth and pains, especially on having eaten.

More than 60 % of the cats suffer a disease called "feline alveolar reabsortion" or injuries on the neck. There are cavities that appear in the "neck" of the teeth, the part of the gum that is between the root and the wreath, but that are not like the bacterial cavities of the man (that are rare in felines). The cavities are spoiling to the tooth and coming to the channel of the flesh. Ultimately the whole wreath falls; at the same time, a similar process can be spoiling the root. The reasons are not known and there is no effective treatment, except extracting the affected teeth. Meanwhile, the cat will have strong toothaches.

The cats suffer also a series of diseases that concern the soft (smooth) fabric of the mouth. The sores in mouth and gums can be a symptom of a viral disease, as the leucopenia or a disease of the immune system. The granulomas eosinófilos are very alarming at sight, the big sores in the lips or the sores in the language, the veil of the palate or the throat. Probably they are caused by an allergy and the veterinarian must treat them.

The most worrying thing they are the tumors that appear in the mouth of the cats. They can be malignant and it is necessary to remove them soon in order that the treatment is successful. This does that the dental periodic reviews are very important.
