Cat Meowing
Cats almost always communicate through their voices, and cats are able to emit a lot of different kinds of sounds. These sounds range from the classic "meow" to "singing". Most cats can notice that humans react to their sounds and with time we have learned the meaning of some "words" within their cat vocabulary. However, the sounds that cats emit vary from cat to cat. If you own a cat or kitten you will be able to recognize the type of sounds it makes if you observe it. Some cat owners have been able to identify up to sixteen different sounds their cats do. Try to read what the cat wants when it makes these sounds.
Hissing and growling" When a cat is angry or frightened, it will lay its ears back and make growling and hissing sounds. If your cat growls or hisses, its best not to get near since this is a pretty obvious warning to "stay away".
"Roaring cats": This is a prolonged sort of musical sounds that the cat does by opening up its mouth real wide and then closing it to change the tone of its voice. Many times cats "roar" to get attention from their owners. Be careful though as this can turn into a very annoying habit. During the day it may seem as something cute, but it won't when you're trying to get some sleep at night.
The real roarers: Cats cannot actually roar the way their family the lion can. This is because lions have the posterior part of their throats shaped differently then domestic cats.
