Cat Loss of Weight
The weight of a normal adult cat must be between 2.75 and 5.5 kg. The oriental ones of short hair are the lightest of the scale and those of long hair, the heaviest; the Maine raccoon cat can get to weigh 8 kg and even more. It is necessary to know which is the normal weight for the breed of our cat or to ask the veterinarian if we are not sure. And remember also that the cats of exterior are in the habit of weighing less than that they live always inside house, more sedentary. The easiest form to know how much weighs our cat is to have him in the arms when we are on the scale of the bath. If we get the whole weight and then we remain of our weight from the total, the difference is the weight of the cat. In this way, we have only an approximate value; you might to weight him again after one or two weeks. If we believe that there is a problem, the veterinarian should weight him.
When they do not eat, the animals get thin immediately and there is a very simple reason for a sudden loss of weight. If our cat is an exterior cat and he has been absent of house a couple of days, he can have remained enclosed in some place without being able to eat. Also it is possible that our neighbor-who gives him delicacies-, has gone on holidays. Is there a new pet in the family? If our cat is in the habit of eating only a little food and returns later, it is possible that another cat or a dog has ended the dish meanwhile.
The problem can be also a change of diet. A cat can stop eating calmly before eating something that he does not like. It is not good to wait that he accepts the change: it is much better to return to the previous food. If we have put to diet the cat because we believed that he was too fat, it could be absent some nourishing essential substances: always it is necessary to ask the veterinarian for advice on the diets.
