Cat Hemorrhaging

Cat Hemorrhaging

A hemorrhage that is not cut can provoke rapidly a shock and death. Take the cat to the veterinarian as soon as possible.

Superficial wounds

  1. Press with the thumb the place of the hemorrhage and put an pad of cotton or of gauze against the wound. Put a pressed bandage. If the hemorrhage continues, put another bandage on the previous one.
  2. If a leg or the tail bleed abundant, apply a turnstile. Tie strongly a strip of fabric (not neither string nor rubber) in a point between the heart and the wound. Pass a pen or a little wood within of the knot turn and press it until the wound stops bleeding. A turnstile must not be kept more than 15 minutes.

Internal Hemorrhage
It is possible that there is an internal hemorrhage if the cat has had a street accident or a dangerous fall or if the pale gums are pale or becomes lethargic.

  • Support the cat calm and sheltered
  • Move him less possible and look for medical attention immediately.

Cuts and bites
If it is a small visible wound, we can treat it; but the bites and the serious cuts must see the veterinarian  if there is an infection.

  1. Remove the dirt that exists in the wound.
  2. Wash it with moderate water.

Nasal hemorrhage
It can be caused by a blow, a violent sneeze or a medical problem.

  • Maintain the cat calm
  • Put him small cubes of ice in the nose, to stop the hemorrhage. (It's available a package of frozen vegetables) .
  • If the hemorrhage continues, phone to the veterinarian..

Burns and scalds
To limit the hurts, act quickly.

Boil water or warm oil

  1. Cool the skin with a sponge steeped in cold water. Do not apply neither ointments nor lotions.
  2. Apply cold compresses.
  3. Take the cat immediately to the veterinarian.

Chemical burns.
Caused by corrosive substances.

  1. Wet the affected part with a sponge and much water, to remove the chemical product.
  2. Consult the veterinarian immediately.

Spotted or contaminated hair
It happens when a cat falls on a substance spilt-as tar or oil - or after an accident.

  1. Clean the hair with liquid detergent without diluting. Do not use paraffin or similar.
  2. Rinse completely with water.
  3. If the cat has its coat hair, clean the mouth carefully with cotton in branch steeped in warm water. Telephone immediately the veterinarian.

Objects in the mouth and in the throat
There are sharp objects, as thorns or needles that can remain fixed in the mouth or in the throat. The cat throws much saliva and rubs the mouth with the leg.

  1. So he does not bite us, put a pencil or another object of wood between his two jaws.
  2. Extract the object with the fingers or with a tweezers.
  3. If you see a thorn, but it is not possible to reach or if it is not possible to see what exists, telephone immediately the veterinarian.

Fishhooks
They can go inside the mouth or in the skin. Do not try to take out them,  this will make crush the flesh. If the fish line comes to the mouth, leave as it is and take the cat to the veterinarian.

  1. If the fishhook is accessible, push it until it goes out for the skin -if it is possible- or cut it in two with a few pincers and then push the top until it goes out of the skin.
  2. If it is not possible to extract, take the cat to the veterinarian.
