Cat Games

Cats love to play and not only does playtime help to keep your cat healthy and happy but also helps to release any pent up energy or tension. Cats have an inborn instinct to hunt and playing games helps to give them a chance to express this trait. Any games you play with your cat should be fun both for it and you. If your cat finds the playtime boring it will just take off and if you find the playtime too dangerous because your cat is scratching or biting then you will also not be apt to continue.

For these reasons cat playtime should be both fun and safe for both of you.

toy on a pole: Especially if you have a big fast and energetic cat it is a good idea to choose toys that allow you to maintain a safe distance from your cat's claws and teeth while playing with it. Some of the best types of toys for this purpose are those that you can attach with a string to the end of a pole or stick. In your local pet store you should be able to find some cat toys made with feathers or that have the appearance of rodents. Attaching these by a string to the end of a pole will allow your cat to chase the toy while allowing you to maintain a safe distance. Be careful when playing these types of games because if you pull too hard on the toy when "stealing" it from your cat you could break one of its claws or even teeth.

Pull string and battery toys: You can also find small animal shaped toys that have a pull string which when pulled make the toy move on its own. There are battery operated versions of these toys also available. Just be sure to watch you cat when it is playing with these toys so that it doesn't destroy the toy and accidentally swallow some part of the toy.

Big confident cats usually find these toys irresistible however some cats can be frightened by these "alive" toys so use caution when introducing your cat to a new toy.
