Cat Foods
Cats are carnivorous by nature. On the wild world, their principal diet is base in the animals they hunt, and centuries of domestication haven't changed these feeding habits. Felines need of certain amino acids and nutrients for surviving that they can only obtain from animal protein, plus fats.
Hunter by nature
With difference from other mammals, its metabolism is incapable of obtaining these essential substances from any other kind of foods, for which they need to consume them directly.
It is important for cats diets to have a very high level of proteins, almost twice more than dogs need, and at least a third of them must be from animal origin. A good feline diet one that is rich in fat, because its digestive system will digest them easily.
Canned food
Thanks to the pets food industry, the actual diet for domestic cats is the best in history. Only 40 years ago cats had to conform with rests of food from their owners and a dish of milk once in a while. Today, high quality food produces for cats contribute for a perfect balanced diet and they contain adequate dose of fats and proteins, as all the minerals and vitamins that guarantee a good state of health.
Always read the labels to be sure that the diet is "complete" and to avoid buying cheap brands that tend to substitute, many times, proteins with cereals and use of scented chemicals.
It is good to offer gourmet products to our cats once in a while (although not all like them). But have in mind that they are not as complete nor balanced in a nourishing point of view as the regular food products.
Don't let yourself be tempted by the low cost of feeding your cat dog food, for example, because its less rich in animal proteins, reason why they are so cheap, and they contain added cereals and vegetables.
Once you open a can of food, always keep it inside the freezer and take it out half an hour before feeding it to your cat at ambient temperature.
