Cat Food and Cat PlayEven though your cat eats dry cat food, it doesn't mean it can't "hunt it". Instead of just serving the cat its food all at once, try spreading some around the floor so that the cat see itself forced to find it. Make sure that the first times you play this game, that you don't spread the food too far away from the cats bowl, and don't spread a lot on the ground. It's always best to start out a new game simple and then little by little go increasing the difficulty of these. One the cat or kitten has learned to find its food, you can then start spreading the food in larger areas. Make sure this is ok with the other family members of your house first though.Activity centers: If your cat rarely leaves your house, it's very important that the cat does stuff within the house so that it gets its exercise. Cat activity centers are made out of several platforms, scratching poles, cat condos and houses and dangling toys, all of which make for a perfect activity and exercise space. Activity centers allow cats to climb up on different levels in order to explore other platforms, or to place themselves in a higher place to feel safe while they sleep or to control what is going on in the room. You can buy an activity center although commercial cat gyms are often times very costly so one option is to build one yourself. If you are planning on creating your own activity center ask yourself what type of things your cat likes to play with. One idea is to hang a rope from the ceiling that the cat can use to climb, or you can put some shelves on the wall that the cat can use as steps. A few boxes on the floor make for an excellent maze that the cat will have to go through to find its prize etc. Make sure to use toys that are safe for the cat to play with though. Carrousel fun - Find several toys that are not dangerous, like a feather, a toy mouse, a tennis ball, or any other hallow plastic ball etc.
- Tie these toys onto a long rope. You will have to make two holes in the tennis ball to be able to put the rope through it, and you will have to use string in order to tie the feather onto the rope as well as with the other toys. Then tie both ends together so that it forms a circle.
- Hang the carrousel from the top of the stairs or a high place. Your cat will be impressed watching how when it jumps on it, the rope automatically turns and a new toy pops up in front of its face.
