Cat Crates and Cat Carriers

Teach your cat to get used to traveling in a car so that it will not get nervous whenever it has to go to a veterinary visit. Because of safety reasons, cats must travel inside cat carriers or crates. It's not safe to carry a cat in your arms in the car since the cat could get nervous or scarred and jump out of your arms and start running around. Most cats and kittens do not enjoy taking a ride in the car, since this usually means that the veterinary check up is due. Therefore when a cat sees its crate or its cat carrier it may get nervous and suspect that it is going to see the veterinarian.

If you want to help your cat overcome this fear, a good way is to permanently leave the crate or cat carrier in a visible place so that the cat gets used to seeing it as something normal. It's also a good idea to play a little with the cat while it is inside the crate or cat carrier and let the cat rub his cheeks on it's crate so that it will recognize the smell next time it has to go inside of it. If you do this, you will probably be surprised how much your cat enjoys being inside its carrier or crate. And it might even enjoy riding inside the carrier while riding in the car instead of getting scarred of it.
