Also it can be to a decrease of intestinal peristaltic movements, to the existence of hernias and tumors or the ingestion of bones or grass. A disease that affects the nerves that control the intestines can conduce also to a serious constipation. The acute diarrhea do that the cat adopts when defecates an attitude that can make us think that he has constipation.

Treatment at home.

  • If there is visible herb in the anal opening, put on a rubber glove and pull it with smoothness to help to go out. Do not try to pull a thread or cord, you can provoke serious internal hurts.
  • If the hair that surrounds the anus has adhered excrement, cut it away carefully with scissors. Wash the anal region inflamed with soapy warm water and apply a lubricant hydro soluble.
  • If the cat has a record of intermittent constipation, add mineral oils to his food in a proportion of a teaspoonful of coffee for every five kilograms of corporal weight (do not give him any pure mineral oil directly for the mouth; if it was getting in the lungs, the more probable thing, it might cause a pneumonia).
  • Take him the temperature. If it is high, if the thermometer works out spotted with blood, or if you notice that he stumbles over some important obstacle on having tried to introduce it, take your cat to the veterinarian in the space of 24 hours. He might need an hospitalization and the application of enemas to attack the constipation.

The constipation is more common in the cats of advanced age than in the young. Use laxatives when it is necessary to do that the dregs have the suitable consistence. Make sure that the cat has sufficient water to drink. You never try to give him an enema without contacting before with his veterinarian and without following his explicit instructions.
