Cat Cleanliness
A clean and silky hair is a sign that the cat has good health and is eating nourishing food. A good cleanliness of your cat can help the growth and shine of their hair. Cats are clean by nature, so they might not even need you to brush their hair o clean them up too often, especially if they have short hair.
Try to get your cat used to and comfortable with this process since they are little, so it is easier for them to accomplish this task when they are adults. If your cat is use to being cleaned and brushed regularly, it is no problem.
If your cat or kitten feels nervous at first, try to spend some time playing with them so they get used to being touched and managed. Likewise, allow them to play with the comb or brush so they get used to them and their anxiety passes.
Be particularly gentle when you brush the head, then go down towards brushing the rest of the body, tail and legs. To remove all loose hairs, go back up and pass over coating.
Daily Checkup
Even though cats are clean animals, the owner must help them that this cleanliness is complete. There has to be a brief revision on:
- Eyes
They must be shinny and free of any rheum. We must clean them with gauze and not cotton because it leaves threads that can bother them. Boiled water with a pinch of salt will work perfectly. It is necessary to check that the eyes are not red or their third eyelid hasn't changed position. - Mouth
The teeth must be complete and clean. We shall clean them with a special toothbrush and toothpaste one or twice a week, this way we help them last longer and keep them free of tartar or any infections. - Ears
They shouldn't be dirty not unless they have an infection due to mites, which produces itching or otitis for other motives. Then we must take them to the veterinarian. There are special cleansers for cats that allow the disinfection of the ear without introducing hyssops with oxygenated water or alcohol. - Nails
They must be checked and cut often. Nail clippers for cats are sold in specialized shops and only a professional must teach us how to cut them. Another option is to eliminate them surgically. While cleaning you cat, take the opportunity to check his skin and verify there are no lumps, irritations, secretions or any other symptom that he is not doing well of health. If you find a problem, call your veterinarian.
