Cat Breeding Facilities
Location of facility of the breeding ground. Rural grounds, not very far from the potential markets, are ideal for constructing a breeding ground; although, one can also locate them on urban areas, depending on the cities law. It is recommended for breeding grounds to be on a dry and sunny place and protected from air currents. Also, location of facilities must have electricity, water and drainage connected to the public system, so that the labours of management can become easier.
Once one has found the adequate place, it is necessary to find out the type of license and/or requisites for the functioning of a breading nursery.
Design and Constructions: The designs of a breeding nursery for cats are variable, depending of very diverse circumstances, such as the location, budget, tastes, etc. The important thing is that facilities have to be practical, easy to clean and provide comfortable shelter and safety to animals.
The confinement cages must be ample, with enough space for a bed, drinking and eating spots and place for the cat to exercise. Also, it is recommended that they have a view of the external world, so that the animal does not get bored.
It is recommended that each reproducer has its own cage, which has to be constructed upon a non-sliding floor so that the cat will not fall during the coupling. The cage has to be ample enough to allow the male to run away from the female after mating.
The roof can be build with adequate materials for breeding and must have a height that enables the breeder to go into the cage to clean it up. Doors and windows must be well set to prevent them from an undesired opening allowing the cat to escape. To avoid cats from escaping when the breeder goes in, install a double door inside the cage. It is essential that the structure of the cage does not have edges of any kind that might injure the cats.
All the breeding nurseries must have quarantine cages. Aside from the normal cages in which to confine sick animals or those animals that have just been brought in the nursery.
Besides the cages, the nursery must have at least one bathing and cleansing area, an area for food storage, a small office for keeping records and put away veterinary products and instruments in addition to a guardian room.
Before starting the construction, one must consider the number of specimen one is going to shelter at the nursery; it is better to start with enough facilities and afterwards, as the business grows, implement more facilities.
