Cat Breeding

If we have a cat and decide to make her produce we will have the only privilege of seeing how her kitties grow since they are minuscule newborn children. Before allowing that the mother should remain pregnant, we should have a list of good houses for all the kitties. Usually it happens that the owners do not think about it: once passed the excitement of the childbirth and of the first weeks, the consequences are tragic. If we are not ready to look for houses for all the kitties or to remaining with them, it is necessary to neuter the cat.

The initial evolution
The kitties born blind and deaf and depend completely on their mother to satisfy their immediate needs. During the first 3 or 4 weeks of their lives, the mom cat not only feeding but she keeps them clean. In a few days the kitties learn to locate and to crawl towards her to suck when they are hungry, though they continue with the closed eyes for near 10 days. To the third week they can put in foot, hear and see; and with 7 weeks of age they can run already, jump and climb the curtains. Since the birth of the kitties and the moment in which they are completely weaned, we should give to the mother too much food -of great quality and formulated for the growth- as she need. The nourishment is essential for her well-being and to the kitties. They must have always clean water to drink.

The kitties start opening the eyes about 10 days, but they cannot focus the objects until they are 4 weeks old. When they can see well, the kitties become more adventurous and start playing. In this moment it is possible to start giving them solid food. Everything will be easier if the mother is taking food for kitties.

Once have started eating solid food, they can familiarize with the tray of sand, putting them in it after every food. Every day they will be taking a bit more of solid food, though they will continue sucking during several weeks more. It is good to encourage for doing it, but it is not necessary to force them. They will eat more solid food when they are prepared. From 5 weeks of age, the kitties grow very fast. It is important that its diet is changed, but most of it must consist of prepared food and specially balanced for kitties. The stomach of a baby cat is very small, only of the size of a nut, so it is better to give them small foods to frequent intervals. If there are given them of eating too much, they can get stomach disorders.
