The Senses of Cats
Sense of Smell: All cats are blind and deaf when they are born, however from the moment they come out of their mother they are able to detect different smells and they very quickly learn to identify the smell of their mother's saliva since she bathes and cleans them with her tongue one by one. The sense of smell is probably the most important sense a cat has next to their sight. Cats were made to be able to communicate with each other from different distances. Under their natural habitat, cats live separate from each other. They only get together to procreate, or to share a large amount of food, and after this, each one goes to it's own spot. During the rest of the time, they live separate and far apart form each other and the way they communicate is through smell messages.
Sense of Taste: Believe it or not, there are some very picky cats when it comes to food. Some cats only accept to eat certain determined foods, however, there are also others that will eat anything that is put in front of them; some cats will literally eat anything (glue, wool etc)! It's believed that cats are able to distinguish tastes such as salty, bitter, and sweet, but from what has been seen, they do not have a lot of taste buds.
