British Shorthair Cat Breed

Origin
This breed comes from the British domestic cats paired with Persians. This kind of cat was most admired in the first British expositions before the popularity of Persians grew. They are also very useful for mice hunting.

Characteristics
You can find them in different colors: white, black, blue, cream, smoked black, smoked blue, classic tabby, mackarel tabby, silver patched tabby, red tabby, brown tabby, blue tabby, cream tabby, spotted tabby, tortoiseshell, tortoiseshell white, tortoiseshell blue-cream and four other types of bicolor: black and white, blue and white, orange and white, cream and white, but no more than half a body should be white. The black and white should have a black tail and spots with the same color in the head and back.

The British Shorthair is compact, well-balanced and powerful medium to large in size. Short hair, very dense and firm to the touch. Short to medium legs, well boned and strong. Rounded paws with a short thick tail with a rounded tip.

The head is round and massive. The snout is medium sized and wide. Ears medium in size, broad at the base, rounded at the tips. Large round eyes and set wide apart.

Of a calm character and at the same time anxious, charming cat that needs contact with humans. Adequate for families and persons with kids and that stay home most of the time. They are very homey and don't feel the need to get out and be with other cats or domestic animals. Their hair must be brushed once in a while.
