Attacking Other Cats

Cat owners are in the habit of believing that if two cats do not get pleased they become scared, but it is unusual that two cats detest in such a way that they attack each other just when they get each other. The signs of social discord are much subtler than this. It can turn how it is the relation between two cats observing their language and corporal positions, specially of the ears and the tail, if they are greeted or not one to another, if they rub and polishing mutually or if they sleep nearby or far one to another.

An aggressor cat approaches to other and look at him, while the other one looks at another side or he retires. If none of them come back, they can start to grumble, spitting, throwing claws themselves and biting. Let's observe the behavior of our cat before other cats. If he is normally calm, but he starts giving claws suddenly, it is necessary to take him to the veterinarian : there can be a secret disease that is responsible of this sudden aggressive conduct.

Assaults to strange cats
The most frequent reason of problems between cats that don't live in the same house is a territorial conflict. This happens specially in urbanization's, where the personal control of many cats coincide.

A cat which we let to vagabond freely in a typical suburban scene tends to cross the territory of other cats. On the same way, it is difficult to keep the cats of the neighbors out of our garden: a wall or a high fence are nothing for the most agile cats.

Probably it is possible to do a little for avoiding that our cat gets into territorial fights with other cats, apart from neutering him in puberty ... specially if he is a male. However, if it is our cat the one that is in the habit of being attacked, probably the best thing is to have him inside house as precaution. It is very important that the vaccines of the cat are recently, because the infectious diseases are transmitted immediately by the bite of an infected cat.
