American Shorthair CatOrigin This breed owes to the "working cats" that were taken to the United States by the first settlers, but their pedigree goes back to a male reddish tiger-striped cat called Belle, who was sent from England starting the XIXC., and was the first to register in the United States as short-haired. Since 1966 the official name American Shorthair. This breed is less squared than the British Short-haired. Characteristics They can adapt to any weather and are excellent mice hunters because they are lightweight but at the same time strong. They are intelligent, affectionate, homey and good hunters. They like backyards. Their hair is short, thick, even and hard in texture. The colors of this breed are classic tabby, chinchilla silver, cream, blue and cameo. Bicolor are tortoiseshell smoke, tortoiseshell white, blue-cream and smoked: black, blue and red; and darks: chinchilla, silver, shaded, shell cameo, red chinchilla, dark cameo and solids: white, cream, black, red and blue. Big head, slightly longer than broad. The nose is medium length with a gentle concavely curved rise. Squared snout. Medium size ears slightly rounded at tips and the eyes are large and wide with outer corners set slightly higher than inner corners and of light color. Medium to large in size, muscular and strong. The legs are medium in length and bone, heavily muscled. Rounded paws and medium long tail, heavy at base. |
