American Curl Cat Breed

The race comes from "Shulamith," a North American long-hair alley cat that was found in the streets by Joe and Grace Ruga in 1981. Shulamith, a curled ears cat , transmitted this distinctive breed feature to its descendants known as American Curl.

In 1983, American Curl selection and breeding started, and by 1986 they were being registered in the CFA –achieved temporarily in 1991.

There are two kinds of American Curls: one with curled ears and the other with straight ears. Curled ear ones are due to the bred of two of the same kind while straight ear ones are due to the bred of two different kinds of cats. The latter only has 50% of probability of inheriting curled ears.

The American Curl cat is always on the alert, elegant, medium sized, multi-colored and has a sweet expression in its face. It is an intelligent, snooping and playful cat that seems to have a stable character.
