A good breeder's command

A good breeder's command

A good breeder must know all the official "standards" of each breed, he must have notions about everything related to genetic sicknesses of the breed he works with. A good breeder must keep its producers and brood in good health and hygienic conditions, likewise he must know everything about the pedigree of his cat and be able to talk about specific details.

A good breeder must only sell in the best interest of the brood or its future owner. The good breeder must have a strict selection plan for his reproducers. He must never sell his brood to pet shops or to intermediaries.

Humanitarian responsibility: Although establishing a breeding nursery is a business, there must be a humanitarian responsibility in every process because one is dealing with living creatures.

The breeder produces life, and as such he must be responsible for them. He must only breed when he is sure of an adequate placing of the brood. The breeder must also find out, before selling the brood, what conditions will potential buyers offer the kitten being bought. He must not only accept the money, he must think about it before acting.

Millions of cats, many of them pedigreed, are abandoned or end up being sacrificed each year. A study done with a demonstrative meaning, indicate that if a pair of cats and its descendants are bred in a discriminating manner, they could, at the end, produce up to 80 million of broods in a period of 10 years.
